ABOUT

The Goal:

is to build a 10 amp solar charge controller for use on a residential off-grid system. Designed so that a nominal 24 volt, 12 volt, or combination of panels in series, not exceeding 45 volts input, can be controlled to charge a 12 volt lead-acid battery bank.

The Design:

The SunCharger 2410 will be optimally designed for hook-up to a few large deep cycle lead acid batteries with a C rating of about 50 amp-hours, or AH, or higher.

Why?

I chose to build the SunCharger 2410 because of my passion for solar and wanting something practical for me to use in the real world. I want to really understand beyond just reading a "brochure" or "spec sheet", have a grasp on everything that goes on inside of a charge controller, and how to design one of my very own!

2410?

The 2410 represents the ratings at which I designed for, a 24 volt nominal solar array at a max of 10 amps input.

Software/Hardware used:

The schematics were designed and built using Eagle by Autodesk. The board files was also generated using Eagle. The boards were printed in our lab facility at VTC in Randolph Center, VT. Any 3D printed parts came from our facilities as well. CodeWarrior was used to code in C language and program the KL25Z board used.
